Job Title: Swimming Teacher
Location: Zest Centre
Rate of Pay: £16.74 per hour
Hours: Contracted; must be available for at least one of the following shifts: 4-7pm Tuesday / Friday and 12:30-4pm Saturday plus additional casual hours – Immediate Start
Holiday Entitlement: 25 days plus 8 statutory holidays (pro-rata)
Responsible to: Leisure Services Manager and Duty Managers

With just two teachers working together per session, our lessons are personal and focused. You’ll have the space to build strong connections with your swimmers, work collaboratively with your co-instructor, and enjoy a supportive atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Teaching
- Engage, coach and inspire members of all ages to achieve their swimming goals.
- Deliver group classes to the Swim England Level 1-8 criteria
- Be an approachable, positive role model with a fun, engaging approach and a talent for teaching that meets the individual needs of each swimmer
- You will be committed to making the most out of every opportunity to learn and develop further.
- Passionate about the idea of working in a community-first environment
Customer Service and Teamwork
- Provide excellent customer service, responding to enquiries and resolving issues effectively.
- Collect and report customer feedback, compliments, and complaints to management.
- Work collaboratively with the leisure team to deliver high-quality services.
- Liaise with Duty Managers to ensure safe environments
Health & Safety
- Follow Zest Centre’s health and safety policies, emergency procedures, and risk assessments.
- Wear the correct uniform and adhere to organisational policies at all times.
Training and Development
- Attend National Pool Lifeguard training sessions once a month to maintain lifeguarding and first aid qualifications.
- Maintain up-to-date training records by Zest Centre requirements.
- Understand that failure to maintain current qualifications may result in removal from scheduled shifts without pay.
- To undertake training and other developmental activities in line with organisational and personal development needs.
- To ensure that services work towards best practice in equality of opportunity.
- To undertake any other duties as agreed with the Line Manager.
- To carry out all duties and responsibilities as described in line with ZEST policies and procedures, with particular attention to those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Data Protection.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Swim England (SEQ) Level 2 qualification, together with a track record of teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. (We do not accept STA qualifications)
- Current up-to-date National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
- Swim England Safeguarding training – this will be provided if not already held
- Any experience of working with SEND children an advantage
An enhanced DBS check will be required for this post.
