| Netherthorpe School Walking Bus |
|
This service is currently only available for families of children that attend Netherthorpe school. The service is organised in partnership with North West Sheffield Community Transport (NWSCT) and the Sheffield City Council Road Safety Officer to provide short-term support for families having difficulties getting their children to school due to illness or problems at home. The concept of the school walking bus is that it operates exactly like a normal school bus but instead of using a vehicle you walk to school. This involves a number of parent volunteers escorting children to Netherthorpe School, stopping off at certain destinations to pick up more children. The service starts at Edward street flats with a number of pick-ups on the way down to Netherthorpe school. The walking bus is always escorted so children reach school on-time, quickly and safely. This is an excellent service for parents that are unable to escort their children to school due to unforeseen circumstances. Families can self-refer or be referred for this service by the school. A needs assessment is completed before the service is offered to a family. This service relies on volunteers, so if you are interested in helping, or require more information on the Netherthorpe School Walking Bus please call the Zest Family Support Officer on 0114 2011490.
