The homework club is aimed at children aged between 5-10 years and and is designed to support children with their homework in a safe environment. All the sessions are led by designated volunteers. The sessions encourage parents to bring along their children to complete their homework with support and guidance from the Zest Family Support Officer and volunteers. The homework club is especially suited for those families where English is not their first language or families that may find the English language hard to understand. The homework club takes place every Friday in the Zest Centre café between 3.30pm – 5.30pm and encourages parents to assist their children with homework activities by providing them with guidance on how to work together with their children. Children should bring along their own homework but if you would like to attend and do not have any homework, then please come along and the Zest Family Support Officer will provide children with work that can be completed. The homework club is a very successful service and has proved to be very popular. It’s a very relaxed and happy environment. Children enjoy working together with their parents and also with the other children. The homework club has also been a success for parents too. Some parents have offered to volunteer to help run the Homework Club and a number of parents have also enrolled onto literacy courses in order to improve their English and therefore assist their children even further. For more information on the Homework Club please contact the Zest Family Support Officer on 0114 2011490. |
