| New State of the Art Gym for Zest |

The fitness facilities at the Zest Centre in Upperthorpe have recently been transformed. Extensive refurbishment work has been carried out on the centres gym, fitness suite and changing rooms. A new multi purpose mezzanine floor has been built into to the gym increasing its size by 50% and a range of new equipment has been incorporated to enhance the existing range to provide more choice for users. There is also now more space for floor exercises and the gym is now accessible for disabled users. The Zest Centre Manager Karen Purnell said: “Zest is a community lead centre and we take our customers opinions on board whenever we are making changes to the centre and its services. The improvements we have made are in response to customer feedback so that we can continue to provide an excellent service for them.” As well as the Gym, the changing facilities and exercise studio have also been given a facelift. The changing facilities have been completely redecorated and refurbished with new furnishings. The layout of the changing rooms have been enhanced with the introduction of private changing cubicles/areas. The exercise studio has been given a total makeover with new décor, air conditioning and a new floor. As well as offering the usual gym finds, such as treadmills and cross trainers, Zest can now offer a celebrity favourite – the Power Plate. Used by stars such as Madonna, the machine simulates the body’s natural response to vibration. As the body tries to remain balanced the machine fine-tunes the muscles in the body. The Power Plate isn’t just for fitness fanatics, it’s great for those who want to include something different into their gym routine but also has sports-specific benefits. A new programme for fitness classes has been developed and will include a range of new and exciting classes. New prices have also been introduced and Zest are now offering unlimited access for evenings and weekends for an amazing £18 per month. Zest is a leading community development trust which delivers a range services, including health & fitness, employment, skills, enterprise, young people’s activities - both in the area and across the city. The main objective of the Zest centre is improve health & quality of life but to have fun doing it. The Centre is easily accessible, fun, friendly and has a real buzz with lots of activities taking place. The unique element of Zest’s fitness facilities is that it is aimed at the everyday person who is interested in their health.
