Upperthorpe Library is based in the Zest Centre and is open 7 days a week between 7 am and 9 pm Monday - Friday; 9 am - 6 pm Saturdays and 9 am - 3 pm Sundays.  

Just use the Self Issue System in the library - the machine gives you simple instructions - all you need to do is follow these three steps - Scan your Library card or Smartcard ... then scan your book...then take your receipt.

      Library staff are available:

  •       Monday -   9.30am - 5.30pm 
  •       Tuesday -  9.30am - 5.30pm
  •       Thursday - 9.30am - 5.30pm
  •       Friday -     9.30am - 5.30pm
  •       Saturday - 9.30am - 12.30pm

 

Facilities include

  • A wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books and talking books for children and adults
  • Books in community languages
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Newspapers and magazines for reading in the library.
  • ICT Suite that includes:
    • 8 computers for public use all with free internet access
    • Scanner
    • Large keyboard available
  • Regular activities include:
    • Baby time every Monday morning (Term time only) 10.30 - 11.30.  For babies, toddlers, parents & carers.  Share books, sing rhymes.  Admission free. 
    • Reading Group 2nd Monday in the month 6 -7pm
    • Homework zone Friday after school 4 - 5pm
    • Events for children during school holidays

  • Easy access for disabled visitors
  • Disabled toilet
  • Deaf loop system available on reception
  • Baby changing facilities

It is free to join the library - adults need to provide 2 proofs of ID. There is no charge to borrow books although fines are charged if items are returned late. There is a small hire charge for DVDs and CDs.
Children can join the library from birth and we have lots of books for babies.
