Family Support

Zest's Family Support service aims to ensure families can access support services before they get into crisis. The service helps vulnerable children and their families to be safe and well, helps families to recognise their responsibilities and empower them to meet their full potential.

The service is available to all families with children aged from birth to 18 years old in the Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett and provides short-term support to overcome difficulties or problems. Families can get directly in touch with the Family Support Officer or they can be referred by an agency/health professional.

Advice/Information

The Family Support service offers advice and information about local & citywide services for children and families. Families can also arrange to meet the family support officer for one-to-one discussions, information and advice.  The family support officer can refer families for specialist or additional support.

Lone Parents Support Service

The Family Support project works in partnership with Scoop aid to
promote activities and services available to lone parents in the area. Information about Scoop aid as well as referrals to the service, can be organised by the family support officer

One to One support

A team of sessional family support workers are available to provide one-to-one support to individual families. The role of the family support worker is to enable families to access resources and services in their community, build their confidence and support them during times of difficulty.

Family Drop-in Sessions

This is an excellent information and advice service specifically aimed at expectant women and new parents.  The sessions take place at the Zest Centre every Thursday between 1-3pm.
A number of health professionals are available to offer their expertise and advice on any issues relating to new babies. Some of the assistance available includes:

  • Baby Clinic - A Health Visitor is present to weigh your babies and offer any advide.
  • Advice on Tax Credits
  • Advice on Healthy Eating
  • Advice and demonstration on Baby Massage
  • The Zest Family Support Officer is also available to inform you of services and assistance available within the area.
